“You should live a big life rather than a long life” is a well-known dialogue from the Bollywood movie ‘Anand’. Today’s generation has shifted its focus from living a long life to living a big and memorable life. Every individual hustles to live a long life, but the one who hustles to make his life larger wins. Making the most of a moment is something to be learned from the existing Gen-Z. Such was Mohammad Anas, a young enthusiast who taught us to follow what we are meant for, who taught us to take up work that gives our soul happiness rather than working to impress this world.
Being a big league cinema fanatic and a colossal advocate for arts and literature Mohammad now stands as a junior specialist for Boston Consulting Group (BCG). He also maintains his own Instagram page in the name of ‘ Unboxing Cinema ‘. He also has a certificate of Sr. Diploma in Indian Classical Music and a Jr. Diploma in Kathak. He retains a rich experience of being a Business Development Associate at Pepper Content where he helped businesses fulfill their content needs whilst clocking lacs in revenue. Anas in his golden journey of success is a graduate of the Hindu College with an honors degree in Commerce. In 2021 he entered the new world of the BCG where he assisted the Knowledge team in the Technology Advantage practice.
The conversation began on a balmy summer afternoon. We all were ready and excited to interact with Mohammad. Being a junior specialist at the Boston Consulting Group ( BCG), he explained his role in depth. Supporting function to consultants where he helps the team make user-ready deliverables summarising the cases that BCG had taken up. “Consulting is about solving problems. Any individual in your life who helps crack a problem is a consultant” says Anas. Here, at BCG businesses from various domains extend their hands seeking help from BCG where they would be consulted on overcoming their problems such as making one’s business more profitable or guiding them on making the best use of their existing business model. Consulting is not child’s play, it is very important to deliver crisp but appropriate information to your clients. Mohammad says,
It is not about presenting the information, it is about presenting the information in the right manner.
Further, he explained that while watching a movie or reading a newspaper or a blog you would never remember the entire thing but only some of it, only that information that had an impact on your mind, similarly, as consultants we must deliver only impactful information. BCG takes a slightly different approach to crafting client deliverables. They go ahead with representing the information in a visually appealing manner rather than making it text-heavy and spiritless.
We were explained how necessary it was to not only make larger connections with well-qualified people but also necessary to make remote connections with people around. Making remote connections can also help us reach heights.
Anas inspired us when he said “Follow your passion, understand the relevant opportunities near you, hunt for your interests and join a workspace that gives you happiness and work satisfaction. Never join a company for its big name or for the society around. You do you!”
He taught us to not get pressured by the stereotypical society norms where it is expected for you to settle in your life at a particular age, or find your passion in a given amount of time. Age is not the factor when it comes to passion, says Mohammad and it is absolutely alright to be confused about what your passion really is. You can discover your passion at the age of fifty and still work towards achieving it. Do not ignore what you are really meant for!
A proud Mohammad further boasts about the exceptional design team at BCG. BCG provides a stage for UI/UX designers, Visual designers, Strategic designers, etc. BCG also had its own design studios. “ At BCG, it is more important for us to talk about the relevant things than talking about everything,” said Anas. BCG was been awarded the place to work in the year 2022 by Glassdoor. You are a human resource to BCG rather than just being a resource and this stands as their specialty.
Further talking about his passion, Mohammad told us how big of a cinema enthusiast he was and how following his passion helps him as fuel in his professional world. ‘ Unboxing Cinema’ where Anas has a sense of belongingness. Here, he watches movies and posts movie reviews on them. He says anything that speaks to you, may it be cinema, visuals, or articles is a form of literature. “ As much as you watch, you keep on growing, as much as you learn you keep on growing,” says the enthusiast in Mohammad. When asked about his favorite movie, ‘ Dead Poets Society’ was the one he picked to label as his favorite movie. The movie is about the hustle of doing certain things and following your passion. It was all about finding yourself and being the happiest about what we are actually doing.
This eye-opening session ended with just one question asked us by Mohammad. “ What are you passionate about the most?” When we typed out our answers it really took us back to what we really like doing and how going back to our passion will help us go ahead in the future.
